What is Rheostat? Types of Rheostat

    Rheostat is a device which is use to control the flow of current in the electrical circuit by varying resistance.

    Rheostat was invented by Sir Charles Wheatstone in the year 1843.

    One of the most common functions of the rheostat is to control current.

    Types of Rheostat:

    Linear Type Rheostat:

    It has sliding terminal that moves along the linear resistive path to change its resistance.

    It is mainly used in laboratory applications.

    Rotary Type Rheostat:

    It has a rotary resistive path.

    It is mainly used in power applications.

    Preset Type Rheostat:

    It is mainly used in printed circuit board.
