Regulated Power Supply

    A regulated power supply is an electronic circuit which convert unregulated AC input into constant DC output. It maintain a stable output voltage or stable output current regardless of the unstable input voltage or unstable input current.

    The stable output from regulated power supply is very important for protection of the electronic device and for the reliable function of the electronic device.

    Main component of Regulated Power Supply:

    1. Transformer (Step-down transformer): It is use to reduce AC input voltage.
    2. Rectifier: Rectifier converts AC voltage into pulsating DC voltage (Pulsating DC voltage is the unidirectional voltage that change its magnitude with time but does not change its polarity with time).
    3. Filter: Filter used inductor or capacitor to smooth ripples in the DC.
    4. Regulator: Voltage regulator is use to adjust the output to maintain the constant DC supply in the output side.
