Fleming’s Left-Hand Rule: Definition and Diagram

    Fleming’s Left-Hand Rule was given in the late 19th century by John Ambrose Fleming.

    Fleming’s left rule is the simple way to find the Force on the conductor when the direction of the applied magnetic field and the direction of conductor current are known.

    Principle:

    If you placed the current-carrying conductor in the magnetic field, then force acts on the conductor is perpendicular to both direction of the magnetic field and the current flowing through the conductor.

    Now we arrange the thumb, middle finger, and index finger of the left hand in orthogonal to each other then, the thumb represents the direction of force, the middle finger represents the direction of current and the index finger represents the direction of the magnetic field.

    Application:

    Electric Motors.
